Add recurring mowing to your landscape business

GroundCut is the right tool when an established landscape contractor wants to add residential mowing as a recurring revenue line. Customers draw their lawn for an instant quote, Stripe Connect captures full payment at booking, and recurring schedules auto-generate jobs 14 days out — turning mowing from a phone-call-driven side hustle into a route that runs itself. One plan, $99/month, with a 14-day free trial — every feature is included.

What you’re dealing with

  • Design-build clients ask "do you mow?" and you say "not really."
  • Mowing routes need different software than project work — you don’t want to pollute your design-build CRM.
  • You need a separate booking page that’s clearly mowing-focused, not your design portfolio.
  • Project-based crews don’t want to manage recurring schedules in spreadsheets.
  • Margins on residential mowing only work if quoting and dispatch are nearly free.

How GroundCut solves it

Mowing as a separate operation

GroundCut runs as a separate tenant focused on lawn care. Your design-build software stays untouched. Customers, recurring schedules, jobs, and invoices live in GroundCut; project work lives where it always did.

A mowing-specific booking page

Your branded booking page lives at {subdomain}.groundcut.com or a custom domain like mow.yourlandscape.com. The page advertises only the services you’ve configured — typically mow, fertilizer, aeration — without your hardscape gallery getting in the way.

Recurring schedules in spreadsheets

Recurring schedules in GroundCut auto-generate jobs 14 days out. Stripe Subscriptions bill the customer monthly on their anniversary date. Visit jobs land on the operator queue with the lawn outline and the address. Your project crews don’t touch the mowing pipeline.

Quoting needs to be free

Customer draws their lawn on Mapbox satellite + your pricing rules = an instant quote. The quote uses price-per-quarter-acre, minimum price, target hourly rate, and surcharges for overgrown / large lot / complexity. The customer either books or doesn’t — you spend zero hours on the unconverted half.

In-person quotes for the bigger jobs

Some mowing jobs are too big or too unusual for instant quoting (commercial, multi-acre, brush clearing). Configure those services with quote_type=in_person. The customer requests an estimate with photos and notes, you visit, send a quote with deposit, customer accepts and pays the deposit through the same Stripe Connect pipe.

Setup walkthrough for landscapers adding mowing

  1. 1Sign up at /register. Pick a subdomain that signals mowing — e.g. mow.groundcut.com — even if your custom domain comes later.
  2. 2In /admin/services, configure your residential mowing service with realistic pricing rules. Add aeration and fertilizer as separate services if you offer them.
  3. 3For commercial / large-lot work, configure a service with quote_type=in_person and a deposit amount. Customers request site visits through the same booking flow.
  4. 4In /admin/zones, set your service area. Mowing routes are tighter than project work — set max_distance_miles to 15 or 20 if you want to keep routes efficient.
  5. 5Set up your custom domain (mow.yourlandscape.com) at /admin/settings → Custom domain. CNAME setup, then click Verify.
  6. 6Hand your bookkeeper the CSV export from /admin/bookkeeping so mowing revenue lands in your existing accounting setup. Direct QuickBooks Online sync is built and waiting on Intuit certification; once approved it’ll turn on for everyone.

One price. Every feature. Forever.

You almost certainly want unlimited team members, a custom domain that keeps mowing visually separate from your design-build brand, and a customer hub that doesn’t pollute your project-side CRM. All of that is on the standard $99/mo plan — there’s no upcharge for any feature, no per-customer fee, no per-user fee. CSV export feeds your bookkeeper today; the QuickBooks Online integration is in Intuit’s app-review queue and will switch on automatically once approved at the same price.

FAQs for landscapers adding mowing

Can I run my landscape business and my mowing business in the same GroundCut account?+
You can, but you’ll usually want to keep them separate. GroundCut models a single tenant as a single set of services, pricing rules, branding, and booking page. If your landscape services are genuinely a different brand or operate under a different EIN, sign up as a separate tenant. If they’re extensions of one brand and you’re just adding mowing as a service, configure them as services within one tenant.
Does GroundCut handle bid-style estimating for design-build?+
No. GroundCut’s in-person quote flow is right for "your lawn is too big or weird for the instant-quote flow, we’ll come look and send a number." It’s not built for line-item bidding with material costs, labor breakdowns, alternates, and revisions. For design-build estimating, keep your existing tool. GroundCut is the recurring-mowing layer.
Can my project crews moonlight on mowing routes through GroundCut?+
Yes. Add them as crew users in /admin/team. They sign in to /operator and see the day’s mowing queue. They can be assigned jobs the same way as dedicated mowing crew. The hourly_rate per user feeds the per-job profitability calculation so you can see whether mowing is actually paying when the labor cost is your project crew’s rate.
How do I price mowing for a property when my crew is project-rate, not mowing-rate?+
Set the user’s hourly_rate at their actual cost, then set time_rules.target_hourly_rate on the mowing service to the rate you need to hit. The pricing engine warns you below_target_rate=true on quotes that don’t meet your target. You see this in real time as the customer traces their lawn, before the quote is sent.
What happens to mowing customers when winter hits?+
Recurring schedules pause naturally — the next-visit date doesn’t advance until you say so. You can deactivate schedules en masse in /admin/recurring before winter. Stripe Subscriptions keep billing unless you cancel them; for seasonal businesses, the typical pattern is to cancel customer subscriptions at the end of the season and re-onboard them in spring with a new subscription.
