Software for new lawn-care businesses

GroundCut is the right software for a brand-new lawn-care business. The 14-day free trial unlocks every shipped feature with no card required. The plan is $99/month with everything included: instant quoting on a satellite map, full payment captured at booking via Stripe Connect (0% platform fee), recurring billing, route optimization, the crew mobile app, custom domain, CSV export for accounting, and 22+ automated SMS and email templates. (Direct QuickBooks Online sync is in Intuit’s app-review queue — turns on automatically once approved.)

What you’re dealing with

  • You don’t have customers yet. Building software in-house is impossible.
  • You don’t know how to price jobs and need pricing rules that catch your mistakes.
  • You don’t have a website and don’t want to pay a designer for one.
  • You don’t have a credit-card processor and don’t want to apply for a merchant account on day one.
  • You can’t afford to pay $200/mo for "real" software and then learn you didn’t need most of it.

How GroundCut solves it

No customers, no software

Sign up. The branded booking page is your website on day one. Drop the URL on Google Business Profile, Facebook Marketplace, and yard signs. Every conversion funnels through one place that already takes full payment at booking.

Pricing mistakes

Pricing rules in GroundCut have built-in protection: minimum price, target hourly rate (warns you when a quote falls below), maximum price (caps absurd quotes from huge drawings), and seasonal multipliers (spring surge, mid-summer discount) that apply automatically over date ranges you set. The pricing engine tells you when a quote is below your target rate before the customer sees it. There’s also an optional card-fee passthrough — let Stripe’s 2.9% + 30¢ fall on the customer if your market accepts it.

No website

Your booking page IS your website while you’re starting. It has your logo, brand color, a hero headline you can edit, your business phone, your service area description, and the trust signals (Stripe, encrypted, 14-day cancellation). When you’re ready, add a custom domain.

No merchant account

Stripe Connect onboarding is a 5-minute form. Stripe is the merchant of record, you’re the connected account. No traditional underwriting, no monthly fee, no chargeback insurance pitch. GroundCut takes a 0% platform fee — every customer dollar reaches your bank net of Stripe’s standard processing fees only.

Can’t afford expensive software

GroundCut is $99/mo flat. The 14-day trial unlocks every feature with no card required, so you can prove the value before any charge lands. There’s no annual commitment; cancel from /admin/billing in two clicks.

Setup walkthrough for lawn-care startups

  1. 1Sign up at /register. Pick a subdomain that’s your business name — e.g. acmemow → acmemow.groundcut.com. This is your URL until you upgrade to a custom domain.
  2. 2Run the onboarding wizard. Be honest about your home-base address — it drives capacity, drive-time, and zone math.
  3. 3Configure one service to start. A standard residential mow with base_price $50, price_per_quarter_acre $20, min_price $40, target_hourly_rate $60 is a reasonable starting point — adjust to your market. Don’t add aeration, fertilizer, or other services until you’ve done the first 10 customers; complexity slows learning.
  4. 4Add one zone in /admin/zones — your immediate town/neighborhood as accept, anything beyond as reject. You can add more tiers as you learn your real radius.
  5. 5Connect Stripe in /admin/settings → Payments. Onboarding takes ~5 minutes on Stripe’s side. Once connected, customer charges land in your bank account on Stripe’s standard payout schedule.
  6. 6Put the booking URL on Google Business Profile, Facebook business page, and any yard signs. Every "do you mow lawns?" message becomes a "here’s the link, get an instant quote" message.

One price. Every feature. Forever.

A new business needs every lever working from day one — instant quoting, recurring billing, the crew mobile app, route optimization, the customer hub for notes and tagging, CSV export for the accountant. They’re all included on the one $99/mo plan, and so is every new feature we ship next month. Stripe’s standard processing fee on each customer charge is your only other variable cost — GroundCut takes a 0% platform fee. (Direct QuickBooks Online sync is on the way once Intuit certification clears, at the same price.) The 14-day free trial covers your first batch of bookings before any charge lands.

FAQs for lawn-care startups

I have no customers yet. Should I really pay for software?+
The 14-day free trial means you don’t pay until you have something to lose. By the end of the trial, you should have your booking page configured and a few customers booked through it — if you don’t, the issue isn’t software, it’s that you haven’t put the URL anywhere customers can see it. Spending $99/mo to capture every "do you mow?" inquiry as an instant booking pays back fast once leads are flowing.
How do I get traffic to my booking page?+
Three free channels first. (1) Google Business Profile — set up the listing, add your booking URL as a website, request a few reviews from your first customers. (2) Facebook business page and Marketplace listings linking to the booking URL. (3) Yard signs at every job with the URL printed clean and large. Paid ads come later. The instant-quote flow has unusually high conversion compared to "fill out a contact form" pages, so even modest traffic produces bookings.
What pricing rules do you recommend for a brand-new operator?+
Be conservative on price-per-quarter-acre and aggressive on minimum price. New operators consistently underprice small jobs and overprice large ones. A min_price of $40 with price_per_quarter_acre of $20 means a 10,000 sqft lawn quotes around $48 — enough to be worth your time. Set a target_hourly_rate that reflects what you actually want to make per hour after gas and equipment, then watch the below_target_rate flag on quotes during your first month.
Will this work if I’m running this on the side of a day job?+
Yes — that’s the most common starting setup. Set work_saturdays=true and work_sundays=true (or whichever days you can mow) in /admin/settings → Booking page. The capacity engine fills slots based on each scheduled job’s estimated time and your service-area zones, and the booking page hides slots once you’re full. Customers see only the days and times you can actually work. You evaluate jobs at night when the bookings have already been taken and paid for.
Will my $99/mo go up if I hire a crew member or add more customers?+
No. The plan is flat $99/mo regardless of how many users, customers, jobs, recurring schedules, SMS sends, or emails you have. The only thing that scales with volume is Stripe’s standard processing fee on each customer charge (which is paid out of the customer charge itself, not on top of $99). Twilio SMS, Resend email, Mapbox tiles, and Mapbox Directions are all covered by the platform within typical residential lawn-care volumes. There’s no per-seat upgrade, no "Pro+" tier, no add-on modules. Hiring your fifth crew member doesn’t change the GroundCut bill.
Will the price go up later, or are new features going to cost extra?+
Today’s $99/month buys today’s product. Tomorrow’s $99/month buys tomorrow’s. We ship new features at the same flat price for everyone — no add-on modules, no "GroundCut Plus" upsell, no feature unlocks. The QuickBooks Online integration that’s currently in Intuit certification is a good example: when it ships, it ships to every account on the same plan with no upcharge. If we ever change the underlying price for new signups, existing tenants would be grandfathered.
